Dieci: Robocog

I'm working hard on things I shouldn't be working hard on and NOT working hard at... my presentations. Just did a massive spring clean on the refrigerator (rifuriji-ta) and chucked out all the expired items.. most of them anyway, while my parents were out of the house so they can't complain.

Next up! Robocog cafe, which was discovered via yelp.com, which I now trust with accurate and coffee-lovers' reviews.

A lot of cafes at Surry Hills look like houses that have been renovated to become a cafe. I've often dreamt of that when I was younger: to make my house into a business, like a cafe, or a studio. I wondered why there weren't more houses doing that. You see the occasional houses selling jams and fruits along the way to Blue Mountains, but around normal suburban areas, there's hardly any "houses turned into shops". Then I was told you need permits and all these other complications that make it so much harder for people to turn their houses into shops.

True to its name, Robocog features lots of robots in their interior design and decorating. Even their menus!

What I absolutely love about good cafes- they do everything right. Their latte art, their coffee beans, their service~ Robocog gets it all right.

My long black with a lovely layer of crema. When we asked the waitress what blend they use, she was able to tell us "Umami". Apparently they changed to Umami just a few weeks ago.

I read reviews raving about their breakfast burrito and we had a very limited time to decide what food to get because kitchen closes at 4pm on Saturday (and it was actually really near kitchen closing time when we went). Had to get this and they were so nice about it!

Stuffed full of ingredients, this burrito is definitely worth raving about. Did I mention the breakfast burrito at Macchiato? No, I'm not letting it go, because it was all flat and disgustingly soaked with sauce and had little ingredients inside. THIS one is the real deal. Thick omelette, chorizo, salsa... it had coriander in it, butit wasn't the Asian kind, so it's all good.

This small cafe only sits 20 people or so due to council regulations. It was quite a relaxing environment, with a table of young adults next to us working on a sudoku over coffee, and a couple of guys outside with a really cute dog, yelping at the delivery man (but not at anyone else!). The staff there are pretty cool too... we caught sight of them cleaning the kitchen, wearing fedora hats and shorts while semi dancing with the hose.

Definitely worth a revisit, especially to try out more of their food menu!
